Russia will be forced to redeploy air defense and EW systems to protect its rear, and Ukraine can take advantage of it - ISW

If Ukraine receives permission to use Western missile weapons to strike the territory of the Russian Federation, the occupiers will be forced to redeploy air defense and electronic warfare systems to protect their rear areas. This, in turn, will allow the Ukrainian military to strike the aggressor more effectively near the front line.

First and foremost, the Russians will try to protect paramilitary facilities in the rear. This is stated in the analysis of the Institute for War Studies.

Ukraine's drone campaign against Russia has shown that many rear areas in Russia have little or no air defense. Russian forces will likely have to redeploy air defense and EW systems from across Russia, as well as from the front lines in Ukraine, to provide the necessary defense coverage for rear areas within range of Western-supplied weapons.

With such a realignment of Russian air defense, Ukraine's air operations along the front line could become much more effective. Lifting the restrictions would allow Ukraine to strike significant Russian military targets and would immediately force dictator Vladimir Putin and the Russian military command to make decisions about the allocation of limited air and missile defense assets and the configuration of military logistics and support systems in active fighting areas and deep rear.

As a reminder, there are at least 250 military and paramilitary targets in Russia that can be hit by ATACMS missiles. However, the United States restricts the use of these missiles to strike targets in Russia, allowing only HIMARS systems to be used.

Earlier, it was reported that on August 24, the soldiers of the Main Intelligence Directorate conducted another successful operation to "demilitarize" Russia on its own territory. They destroyed a field depot of the Russian army near the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh region.
