Google updates satellite imagery of Mariupol to show scale of destruction and new mass graves

Google updates satellite images of occupied Mariupol

In the first months of the full-scale war, the Russian terrorist army was wiping Mariupol off the map. The occupiers dropped bombs and missiles on the city, where tens of thousands of civilians remained.

As a result of the criminal actions of the Russians, some districts of the temporarily occupied city ceased to exist. New Google satellite imagery shows the scale of Putin's army's crimes (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the photos).

In addition to destroyed buildings and houses, the satellite images show new mass graves. According to Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, judging by the history of the destruction, the satellite images were taken on different dates after mid-March 2022.

He noted that maps of all cemeteries in Mariupol had been carefully studied, which led to the discovery of new sectors of mass graves at the Novotroitske cemetery. Andriushchenko noted that these sectors are visually larger than the mass graves in the villages of Vynohradne and Mangush.

He also added that the Novotroitske cemetery had been closed for a long time and was under the control of the occupiers. Therefore, it is currently impossible to find out who was buried there and at what time.

In addition, Google's images showed the extent of the destruction of the drama theatre, on which the Russians dropped a bomb and killed hundreds of people. However, it is worth noting that the satellite images were probably taken back in 2022, as a few months ago, the occupiers completely demolished the ruins of the theatre and buried the dead under tonnes of reinforced concrete.

Satellite images also clearly show the destroyed Azovstal plant, where Ukrainian soldiers held the city's defence to the last. Most of the plant's shops were pierced by hundreds of enemy shells.

One year into the war, it is no secret that Russian forces have almost completely destroyed the rich and prosperous city of Mariupol. However, new satellite imagery shows on a different scale the genocide that Russians are carrying out in Ukraine.

Some neighbourhoods with private houses have simply ceased to exist since the arrival of the Russian world. Instead of houses, there are now burnt-out ruined walls.

Earlier it was reported that Russian terrorists plunged the temporarily occupied Mariupol into the Middle Ages. Right in the middle of the city streets, Russians are slaughtering sheep and arranging spontaneous trade. Moreover, the number of Russian citizens brought to the city for various jobs is growing.

Recall that local men may be mobilised in the temporarily occupied Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast. The relevant decree on two waves of the so-called conscription into the ranks of the Russian invading forces was issued by the leader of the "DPR" Denis Pushilin.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the local authorities of the temporarily occupied Mariupol managed to confirm the deaths of more than 20,000 city residents - these are only preliminary figures that reflect the approximate statistics at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The actual number of Mariupol residents who have died as a result of the full-scale Russian war is much higher.
