The Russian missile ship "Serpukhov" in Baltiysk, Kaliningrad region, was set on fire by a former Russian sailor who defected to Ukraine. He is now a recruit of the Russian Freedom Legion with the call sign "Goga".

This was reported by the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Yusov and "Goga" himself at a press conference, an OBOZ.UA correspondent reports. According to Yusov, the destruction of the Serpukhov was part of Operation "Rybalka", which has been ongoing since 2023.

As a result of this operation, a large amount of important information was obtained and the "Serpukhov" ship was put out of commission for at least six months.

A sailor of the Russian Baltic Fleet, who had served in the Russian Federation for 11 years in 2022 questioned the adequacy of the Russian authorities when the aggressor country attacked Ukraine, and helped to carry out the operation.

At first, he tried to find like-minded people on his ship, but a case was opened against him and the sailor had to communicate with the Russian prosecutor's office.

In 2023, "Goga" turned to the "I Want to Live" project, which coordinated him with the Legion. That's how the man became a saboteur and collaborated with Ukrainian intelligence.

He supplied classified information to the intelligence community until April 2024. That month, the Russian command decided to involve the crews of the Baltic Fleet in the war in Ukraine.

To avoid the Goga's participation in the war on the side of the Russian Federation, it was decided to transfer it to the territory of Ukraine. Before doing so, he sabotaged and set fire to the "Serpukhov" ship on which he was serving.

In addition, "Goga" passed classified information about the Baltic Fleet and the Russian military-industrial complex to the DIU.

It is known that the man is an ethnic Ukrainian and comes from a military family.

As a reminder, the Freedom of Russia Legion is a Russian legion within the International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, formed in March 2022 to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression. It consists of former military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces and other Russians, as well as Belarusians who sided with Ukraine.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the "Serpukhov" missile ship was on fire in the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation on April 7, 2024. The ship was stationed at the occupiers' Baltiysk naval base. The "Serpukhov" was seriously damaged and sent for repair.

OBOZ.UA's sources reported that the incident with the Russian ship was a special operation of the DIU.

It should be noted that on the same day, the Russian "Catherine the Great", the world's only ice-class supply ship, was on fire in Vladivostok, Russia. Moscow reported one dead and three injured.
