Vesnina on ending her career

Olympic tennis champion Olena Vesnina has admitted that she decided to end her career due to a loss of motivation. The 38-year-old native of Lviv noted that her life priorities had changed a long time ago, and playing on a professional court no longer fits into them.

Vesnina, who played for Russia, said this in a commentary to the propaganda news agency TASS. The three-time Grand Slam doubles winner added that she now intends to focus on working with young tennis players.

"I could still play, but I had to motivate myself a lot, and I don't have the ways to do that anymore. Playing professionally is no longer for me. Plus, my priorities in life have changed. It seemed impossible to travel the world, given the tour schedule. Plus, I have a family, children, and a tennis academy that I associate my future with," Vesnina said.

It should be noted that the athlete has not said a word about the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the city where she was born. After the full-scale invasion on February 24, Vesnina accused Facebook and Instagram of "inciting hatred against Russian citizens."

In addition, in 2017, Olena wished Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a happy birthday. The tennis player posted a joint photo with the Kremlin leader on X, formerly known as Twitter.
