Mahuchikh wants to break Slesarenko's record

Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion, has set herself the goal of breaking her own world record and also breaking the achievements of the Games. Our compatriot emphasized that she fully believes in the possibility of rewriting the history of athletics in the high jump.

Mahuchikh said this in an interview with Sport.ua. According to the 23-year-old native of Dnipro, she will storm the bar at 2 meters 15 centimeters, and at the upcoming Olympic Games, she is going to break the record of Russian Elena Slesarenko, who jumped 2.06 meters at the 2004 Athens Games.

"Now I'm ready and I want to surpass 2.10 meters myself, but this is a record. This is a height that people sometimes jump once and that's it. But I want to go higher. I think I can jump up to 2.15 – I have the strength. There is a desire to break the Olympic record and put the Ukrainian name there. I will say this: if 2021 was my first Olympic Games at all, then 2024 will be the first trial after the world record. And after that, preparations for Los Angeles will begin," Mahuchikh said.

It should be noted that Slesarenko is a captain in the reserve of the occupying Russian armed forces, as well as the chief of staff of the General Staff of the Unarmia children's movement. In 2008, she was caught doping and disqualified for four years.
