Yastremska defeats Gracheva
Ukrainian tennis player Diana Yastremska did not shake hands with Russian-born French player Varvara Gracheva after the second round match at the Australian Open 2024. Our compatriot won but refused to traditionally greet her opponent.
Immediately after the end of the last game, which recorded the 23-year-old Odesa native's triumph in two games with a score of 6:3, 6:2, the tennis players headed to the net. Yastremska did not shake hands with Gracheva, who had played under the flag of the aggressor country until last year.
Diana put her racket forward instead. Varvara did the same, and took the situation calmly.
It should be noted that Yastremska's victory was historic for Ukrainian tennis. For the first time, four representatives of our country will play in the third round of a Grand Slam tournament.
