The Russian national team "staged a riot" and refused to go to Italy and Spain for the World Cup in rowing slalom
The Russians refused to compete at the upcoming stages of the World Cup in rowing slalom in Italy and Spain, said the head coach of the Russian national team Maxim Obraztsov. The stages will be held in Ivrea from September 12 to 15 and in La Ceu from September 19 to 22.
"We decided not to go to these tournaments. We would have had to solve serious logistical issues, and we could have had problems getting entry visas. Moreover, we already have a bad experience with the application for the July World Championship in Slovakia," the coach said in an interview with TASS.
As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the Russian national rowing team was not allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic qualifying tournament in rowing slalom, which took place from June 7 to 9 in Prague (Czech Republic). According to Obraztsov, everything was decided by a survey of the participating countries on the possibility of Russian athletes' participation, which was conducted by the International Canoe Federation before the tournament.
On April 2, it became known that Russian rowers refused to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris and did not compete in the qualifying events for the 2024 Games. At the same time, the IOC allowed the Russians who had qualified to participate in the Paris Olympics in a neutral status under strict conditions.
