Paralympics 2024: Ukrainian national team uniforms were to be banned because of the map with Crimea
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) refused to approve the uniforms of the Ukrainian national team for the 2024 Games, which will start in Paris. The sports officials did not like the fact that the blue and yellow team's outfits depicted a map of our country with Crimea, as well as the color of one of the kits.
The president of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ukraine, Valeriy Sushkevich, wrote about this on his Facebook page. According to him, he and his lawyers spent two months convincing the IPC leadership that our country did not violate any of the provisions of the regulations and the charter.
"Pay attention to this uniform, because for more than two months the IPC officials refused to approve it, claiming that we made the Ukrainian uniform too political. They strictly forbade the map of sovereign independent Ukraine on the uniform, but we pushed through our demands that Ukraine in its internationally recognized borders be on our uniform. They claimed that our uniforms were too military in design and banned the additional green-military color that appeared on our uniforms. We were able to prove our legal case and the Ukrainian perception of all the colors of our uniforms!" said the head of the NEC.
At the 2024 Paralympics in the French capital, 140 Ukrainian athletes will compete in 22 disciplines. The largest number of our compatriots are registered in swimming (37 people) and athletics (28).
