The Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov awarded 100-year-old UPA liaison Anhelina Palamar "Orysia" with the DIU medal. Back in the last century, she fought for Ukraine against the Russian Empire.

On Budanov's behalf, fighters of the Aratta special forces and DIU spokesman Andrii Yusov presented Anhelina Palamar with a letter of gratitude and the medal "Ukraine Above All!". This was reported by the DIU press service.

Anhelina Palamar witnessed the crimes of the Russian occupants at the age of 15. Then the occupants shot the girl's father and brother right in the family yard. After that, young Anhelina decided to join the UPA and became a liaison officer with the pseudonym "Orysia".

Soon after, Anhelina Palamar was captured by the Soviet secret services, and after prolonged interrogation and torture, she was sentenced to 10 years in camps and five years in exile. Despite these trials, Orysia did not break down, did not betray her comrades, and remained faithful to the cause of fighting for Ukrainian independence.

"And today, on the one hand, Ms. Anhelina sees a new drama, a new great war from the old invader, from the Russian Empire. But at the same time, she sees that it is no longer an underground. Today, the Ukrainian army, the entire Ukrainian people, and the entire free world are standing together with Ukraine against the Russian invasion and aggression," Yusov said.

Ukrainian intelligence officers noted that the feat of Orysia and the heroic efforts of her comrades-in-arms are already inspiring a new generation of Ukrainian soldiers to resist the occupiers and defend Ukrainian independence.

As a reminder, in June, Vasyl Khomin, a former UPA liaison officer, died in Lviv region . He dreamed of Ukraine's victory over the Russian invader.

Earlier it was reported that a resident of Rivne region, a former UPA liaison, Natalia Kospa, received her first foreign passport at the age of 96. The woman decided to apply for the document at such a venerable age because she wanted to fly to the capital of the Netherlands.
