Whether you buy a car in a showroom or on the secondary market, one of the main criteria for choosing a car is reliability. And some brands can boast that their models outperform their competitors in this regard.

Slashgear.com has compiled its reliability rating of car brands. To do this, the journalists used the results of a driver satisfaction survey, narrowing the sample to 2021-2024 models. In total, the study took into account the opinion of car owners about more than 330,000 vehicles. Here are the conclusions reached.

10. Nissan

The Japanese concern produces millions of cars every year, and its lineup includes various types of cars – from family SUVs to electric vehicles. One of the aspects that makes Nissan cars so reliable is that they are very easy to repair compared to many other brands. Spare parts are constantly available and there are almost no specialized ones. This fact alone has a strong impact on the reliability of Japanese cars. On average, there are 170 reports of problems per 100 Nissan cars, which is lower than the average of 186 problems, and the range of the brand's electric vehicles is on par with Tesla.

9. Hyundai

The South Korean manufacturer, in addition to producing its own cars, is also the largest shareholder in Kia and owns the Genesis luxury car brand. The company has earned a strong reputation for well-built cars that rarely break down and can be repaired relatively inexpensively and quickly. There are 170 problems per 100 Hyundai cars. The concern also offers a large manufacturer's warranty – more than most competitors. This should mean that customers will not face expensive engine repair costs throughout the life of the car.

8. Kia

And again, a Korean car brand. Its philosophy, as stated, is to put customers first and provide only the best in terms of quality and service. Drivers assure us that these are not empty words. Kia cars often take first place in reliability surveys. The brand's models are particularly successful in the category of compact city cars, as well as mid-size and small SUVs.

7. Mazda

Recent decades have brought the Japanese brand fame not only as a manufacturer of reliable cars but also as one of the most innovative automakers. Cars coming off the Mazda assembly line combine the reliability of a family car with a sporty character. Reports show that they require the least amount of time off the road for repairs, and the corresponding costs remain among the lowest. Only 174 reports of problems are recorded per 100 cars of the brand.

6. Subaru

The Japanese corporation has made a name for itself by innovating in the all-wheel-drive market and has achieved great success in the World Rally Championship thanks to its qualities. The likelihood that a driver will be stuck with a Subaru repair for a long time and spend a lot of money on it is very low, making the brand a favorite of motorists. And professional ratings indicate that these cars are a very good choice.

5. Honda

The Japanese concern's experience in producing a wide range of different vehicles makes it a leading player in the automotive world. No matter if you are looking for a sports car, SUV, or even a hatchback, Honda can meet this demand and offer high reliability. The brand's models tend to be among the most durable and perform well even after ten years of use. And their repair, according to research, requires the least amount of work.

4. Acura

Simply put, Acura is the luxury division of the Japanese car manufacturer Honda. These cars are built on the same platform, but in addition, offer a long list of improved features and some higher-end components. The NSX model was even able to break the hegemony of Europeans at the top of the list of super-powered cars.

3. Mini

The once British brand and symbol of English style has now come under the control of BMW. The German concern has expanded its model lineup and done a good job of improving its reliability. In particular, it has eliminated typical problems with assembly quality and power steering malfunctions. According to the latest statistics, 170 problems are reported per 100 units. In addition, Mini is highly valued in the secondary market because it does not lose reliability over time.

2. Toyota

Producing about 10 million vehicles annually, the Japanese company is one of the largest giants in the industry. The success of its models is due to their exceptional reliability. Much of this can be attributed to Toyota's philosophy of quality control and testing. The company does its best to ensure that every part of its vehicles works efficiently and effectively. This is reflected in the survey results. It should be noted that the Prius has become the most popular model among Uber drivers who use the car as a work tool.

1. Lexus

The American luxury branch of the Toyota brand has managed to outperform European brands such as BMW and Mercedes Benz in many respects. In particular, in terms of reliability. A wide range of models from sedans and SUVs to sports cars produced under this brand. In addition to Toyota's meticulous approach, it offers luxury solutions designed to create as little hassle as possible for the driver. This is evidenced by the extensive warranty that the company provides for its cars. Research results clearly show that Lexus cars have the least number of problems among all major manufacturers.
