Islands in the Pacific have already celebrated New Year 2024: which countries will be next and who will be the last to celebrate

Among all countries, the Line Islands in the Pacific Ocean are the first to celebrate the New Year. In Ukraine, the New Year comes 12 hours after the start of the celebration on these islands.

The last country to celebrate the New Year is Samoa. OBOZ.UA will tell you more about the order in which different countries celebrate the New Year.

The New Year comes earliest on the Line Islands, consisting of 11 coral islands that are part of the state of Kiribati in Polynesia. They celebrate at about 12:00 on December 31, Kyiv time.

Also among the first to welcome the New Year are the inhabitants of Chatham Island, which belongs to New Zealand but is located about 800 kilometers east of the mainland. This island is in a different time zone.

In addition, the island nation of Tonga is among the first to celebrate the beginning of the New Year.

Then the New Year comes in New Zealand at 13:00 Kyiv time and Antarctica. At 14:00 Kyiv time, the beginning of the New Year is celebrated in the Russian Far East, in particular in Kamchatka.

The next to celebrate the New Year is Australia - from 14:30 to 15:00 Kyiv time.

Around 17:00 Kyiv time, the New Year begins in Japan, South and North Korea. At 18:00, the New Year comes in China, and at 19:00 - in Indonesia.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka celebrate the holiday at around 20:00, Nepal at 20:15, and India at 20:30.

At 21:00 Kyiv time, the New Year comes in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. At 21:30, the holiday reaches Afghanistan. At 22:00, the New Year also comes to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

In turn, Ukraine celebrates the New Year 12 hours after the start of the celebration in Kiribati. At the same time, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Romania, and Finland celebrate the holiday along with our country.

One hour after Ukraine, Central and Western Europe starts celebrating the New Year, while the UK and Portugal celebrate the holiday two hours after Kyiv.

At 4 a.m. Kyiv time, the New Year begins in Brazil.

In Canada, on the island of Newfoundland, which is located on the easternmost coast, New Year's Eve is celebrated at 5:30 am Kyiv time.

At 7:00 a.m., the New Year begins in Washington, New York and Ottawa.

And last but not least, Samoa celebrates the New Year at 13:00 on January 1 , Kyiv time.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported when Ukraine sows for the New Year holidays. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church switched to a new calendar, but the traditions of the holidays remained unchanged. Only the dates of these holidays have changed.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA told whether it is possible to celebrate the Old New Year after the change of the church calendar. The transition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine to the New Julian calendar solved many problems with the dates of holidays, but also caused some confusion.
