How to save broken cosmetics: an ingenious life hack
If you've never dropped a cosmetic bag, we can only admire you. Most of us have had the misfortune of dropping some cosmetics on the floor and having it turn into a mass that you don't know how to use. Is there really no way to save the situation and you have to throw everything away?
Makeup lovers say it's not that bad. OBOZ.UA has collected some effective life hacks on how to bring cracked eyeshadow or powder back to life and repair a broken lipstick.
Compact dry products
Dry products in a compact, compressed format suffer from impacts the most. It is eyeshadows, powders, dry bronzers, blushes, and similar products that crack and crumble. However, it is possible to save them.
If the chip is very small, just take the piece that has fallen off, put it back in place with the applicator, and press very gently on top with a makeup sponge. Soon, the chipped piece should snap back into place. If it doesn't want to, dab some rubbing alcohol on the chipped area and try again, for example, with the back of a spoon. When the alcohol dries, the palette should be as good as new again.
However, it can happen that the product crumbles to dust. And even then it is not the end. For example, you can put all the leftovers in a small jar with a tight lid and use a toothpick to crush everything as much as possible. The result is a crumbly texture that can be applied with a brush.
What exactly should not be done if the dry product has cracked and crumbled? Avoid using water, both regular and micellar, for bonding. Using anything water-based can lead to the growth of bacteria in your cosmetics. In addition, do not try to save a product in a glass container. You risk picking up small pieces of glass with it and injuring your face or eyes.
Lipstick
The lipstick tube can break on impact and melt when exposed to high temperatures. The tube's pull-out mechanism can also break. All of these problems can be solved.
You can carefully put the broken stick back together and press the pieces together. The wax texture should stick together quite easily. Of course, you'll need to be careful when using a lipstick repaired in this way.
Collect the molten product in an empty container and let it harden again. It will also have to be used with a brush, but it will continue to be quite suitable. A brush will also save the day if you break the tube.
Mascara and eyeliner
If you accidentally forgot to close the cap of your liquid eyeliner or mascara and it has become dry or clumpy, try melting it in a water bath. To do this, pour enough water into a saucepan to cover the mascara and put it on the fire. Once the water boils, place the closed tube in it and leave it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes. When the product has cooled down, the cosmetics will be suitable for use again.
If you can't melt the product, add a drop of olive oil to the tube and mix it with a brush. Oil can be replaced with eye drops or contact lens fluid.
