Why the movie "Dumb Money" is worth watching in the theater and what it will be remembered for: Seth Rogen revealed secrets

On October 12, the movie Crazy Money, based on real events, was released in theaters. He told us why he chose it and what is special about the movie.

In addition to the actor, there is another star, Seth Rogen, a producer and screenwriter who has led many notable projects. Among them are Amazon's top shows Unbreakable and The Boys, as well as Platonic Love from Apple TV+, the animations Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

As you can see, Rogen doesn't waste his time on trivial projects, and Crazy Rich Asians is another far from being a run-of-the-mill movie in which the actor has starred. Why is it worth watching Crazy Rich Asians in the cinema, what are the best scenes and what will you remember about this movie? Seth Rogen tells us in our interview.

- You always choose your projects very carefully. What interested you in the movie Crazy Money?

- I usually have this rule: I ask myself if I would like to see a movie like this. If I see the trailer, will it interest me? This is mostly how I choose the films I want to take part in. In this case, I answered yes because I really liked the plot.

- How did you get involved in the project?

- It all started with Craig Gillespie. I knew him from working on the Pam and Tommy series. But even before that, I was a fan of his, and then we became friends. Lauren and Rebecca, the writers of Mad Money, are also old friends of mine, and I've always wanted to work with them. I've always liked the way they write. I also really liked the cast of the movie.

- Did you know about the high-profile conflict with GameStop?

- I didn't follow the situation with GameStop. I heard about it, I saw something on social network X (formerly known as Twitter), but if you ask me now to explain all the details of that situation, I can hardly do it. The thing is, I've never invested in stocks. Never, not once in my life! I have never traded on the stock market, and neither have my parents. So, to be honest, I don't understand much about it. But it was the movie that helped me to understand the topic.

- You play Gabe Plotkin. Who is he?

- My character is a small billionaire in a world of big billionaires. He invested a lot of money in shorting GameStop shares. In other words, he basically bet on the company's failure to make money on it. But ordinary people found a way to increase the company's value. People started buying up shares, so the value of GameStop went up. Because of this, people like Gabe lost a lot of money.

- Is he a real person?

- Yes, he's a very real person, so the director wanted Gabe to look like a normal, relatable guy. Not too bad or devious. Our goal was to show him as a real person. I have to say, I know that the characters I play are sympathetic. I know that the audience likes me and that they are rooting for me. And I think this makes such roles more interesting. I add humanity to such characters, but I try not to look for much depth in them. I don't consider them deep thinkers, you know, in a global, moral sense. They realize they are doing bad things, but they don't care. Such people just never think about others.

- Do you know the real Gabe Plotkin?

- No. But once at a party, I mentioned that I was filming a movie about GameStop. And one of the attendees said: "Oh, I'm friends with Gabe Plotkin." And I said: "That's the guy I'm playing." I know that Plotkin is still very wealthy. You don't have to worry about that. After all, he works in a system built specifically for people like him. People who inherited a large fortune. People whose lives are connected with finance, with investments, with venture capital, and whose friends are doing the same. These people get all the insider information, they know all the influential people. Gabe really likes to live in prosperity-he has hundreds of millions of dollars! And so, in the movie, he learns about a group of people who used social media and the Internet to break this corrupt system that made his life so wonderful.

- Don't you have any sympathy for your character?

- Not really, to be honest. Maybe just a little bit. No one would want to lose hundreds of millions. But when you still have hundreds of millions left over, you're not doing so bad. But at the same time, people like Gabe Plotkin are often credited with a certain cunning. And yes, they do do bad things. But what's worse, in my opinion, is that they don't always even think about it. They are ordinary family people who earn hundreds of millions by bankrupting companies and taking advantage of people's failures. Do you understand what I mean? And it seems strange to me from a moral point of view.

- Would you like to meet him in person?

- I don't know, maybe yes. I would ask Gabe what happened. I would ask him some general questions, talk to him. There's nothing I'd really want to know, to be honest, but I'd be interested to hear his opinion. Yeah, I would ask him a few questions, but if they say to me: "Look, it's Gabe Plotkin," it's not like I would go and meet him.

- Favorite scene with your participation.

- When me and Nick Offerman, who I've worked with before and who I just adore, appear together at a country club. We are wearing white tennis clothes, we look perfect. What's funny is that we don't know how to play tennis. We both took lessons for this scene. And it was a fun day of filming in general. It was quite awkward for both of us, but we still shot enough footage. We laughed a lot in the process!

- There are many characters in the movie who have never even met in the story. Was it the same on the set?

- The process was quite interesting: everyone was the star of their own little movie. And it was quite unusual. When I was being filmed, most of the time I was the only actor there. I was number one in my little filming project. And I'm sure that when they were filming Paul, he was number one in his. For me, this kind of work is a new experience. In the movie, the plot jumps from one character to another so quickly and organically that even I'm ready to believe that everything is happening at the same time. But no, everyone was filmed separately. It turns out cool - I talked to the other actors, and each of them felt like the main character.

- Why should I watch this movie in a theater?

- It's more fun to watch in a movie theater! Especially when the movie has energy, adrenaline, humor, and when it is exciting. In general, it is better to watch any movie in a theater, if only because you won't be stuck on your phones while watching it. I think 90% of people watch movies at home while scrolling through their smartphones. This is not allowed in the cinema, so everyone should watch the movie, at least because they have nothing to distract them.
