What colors of cars fall in price the most: it will be hard to resell

Yulia PoteriankoNews
The rare color yellow turned out to be the most "worthwhile" when reselling a car

Of the factors that affect a car's value during an aftermarket sale, color seems to be the least obvious. However, research shows that it does have an impact.

The iSeeCars aggregator has undertaken to study how the color of a car affects its price. To make their conclusions, the experts of the platform analyzed data on prices of more than 1.3 million used cars of three years old. And here are the conclusions they came to.

General data

Over three years, the average car loses 22.5% of its value. However, if its body is painted yellow, the price reduction is only 13.5%. This is a rare color for which demand far exceeds supply.

Less than 20% price reduction on average was observed for cars of beige, orange and green colors. Red and white colors retain their value quite well. Silver, brown black and gold colored cars depreciate the most.

And here's how body color affects the depreciation of a used car depending on its type.

SUVs

Yellow, orange and purple class cars lose the least in price. This is an unusual color for SUVs. Therefore, they seem to buyers more rare and valuable. Silver, gold and black, on the other hand, will lead to a bigger drop in value. The average value for SUVs is blue with 24.8% lost value.

Pickups

Among pickup trucks, beige vehicles are the least likely to lose value. In recent years, this color has begun to be associated with premium interior decoration, hence such demand. Also, three-year-old pickups in orange, green and brown colors have not become much cheaper. And black and silver again lag behind - the price for them is one of the lowest. So are the blue ones.

Sedans

Unexpectedly, in the category of sedans, the color that depreciates the least is brown. Analysts attribute it to the conservatism of fans of this type of cars, who like colors that do not shout. However, red and orange were also in the top three. And gray, black, gold and violet colors knocked down the price of sedans most of all.

Convertibles

Buyers of convertible cars also turned out to be fans of bright yellow. At least, the balance of supply and demand for them knocks down the price of this type of car less than others. Orange, blue and green are also "expensive" here. And gray, black and silver depreciate convertibles the most.

Coupes

And in this class yellow color is the leader. In general, the situation with coupes is similar to the situation with convertibles. The lowest depreciation was also in orange, red, blue and green. And what distinguishes this class is the fact that white body color brings down the price most of all. Silver, purple, and black coupes are also getting cheaper by a lot.

Minivans

There are no fans of yellow color among minivan buyers. Here the green color has the least influence on the price reduction. Brown, blue and white colors also do not depreciate such cars. But red was in the list of colors that knock down the cost the most. Together with black and silver.
