Under attack: Nova Poshta, a shopping center and the Palace of Sports: the terrible consequences of the enemy shelling of Kharkiv. Video
On the afternoon of September 1, Russians launched massive attacks on Kharkiv. A Nova Poshta office, a shopping center, and the Sports Palace were hit, and dozens of people were injured.
Nova Poshta showed the terrible consequences of the attacks, while the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported on the rescue operation at the sites of the hits in the regional center. President Zelensky also reacted to the shelling.
"Our office in Kharkiv was damaged by Russian shelling. Fortunately, people are safe. They were in a shelter during the attack. The level of damage is being clarified," the Nova Poshta said.
The company also showed the consequences of another Russian terrorist attack against civilians in a video.
After the first reports of brutal attacks on Kharkiv appeared, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to another war crime. He called the enemy attacks on civilian infrastructure in a peaceful city terror and assured that all efforts were being made to help the affected Kharkiv residents.
"All the necessary forces have been deployed for the rescue operation. And all the necessary forces of the world should be involved to stop this terror. This does not require extraordinary forces, but sufficient courage of leaders - the courage to give Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself," the President once again appealed to the international community with a call that has been heard by few.
Zelenskyy also showed in the video what Russia's bloodthirstiness and the West's indecision lead to.
As of 15:30, the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that the number of victims in Kharkiv had increased to 41, including 5 children. Earlier, at least 30 civilians were reported injured, including four children, two of whom were in serious condition.
According to the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office, Russian troops struck Kharkiv at around 15:00. The massive shelling was carried out from the territory of the Russian Federation. The second largest Ukrainian city was hit with ballistic missiles.
At least seven missiles hit three districts of Kharkiv: Kyivskyi, Saltivskyi and Nemyshlyanskyi districts.
The Sports Palace was destroyed in Nemyshlyansky district.
According to Syniehubov, as of 4 p.m., a search and rescue operation is underway.
"The operation to dismantle the rubble in the sports complex, where one of the missile hits took place, is underway. There may still be people under the rubble, so search and rescue operations continue. One man, who works there as an electrician, was trapped in the rubble. He is now safe. At least 6 missiles were recorded near the sports complex, some of which hit the ground," noted Syniehubov.
In Saltivsky district, Russian missiles hit a few meters from the entrance to a hypermarket, and a gas pipeline was damaged.
During the inspection, investigators and prosecutors found and seized the remains of missiles, which allowed them to identify their type.
"These are metal fragments of green color, typical for Iskander-M missiles. You can also see a thermal insulation winding from the engine of an Iskander-M missile. In addition, according to the data from air defense systems, the speed of these ballistic missiles in the air was recorded. It was about 6,000 km/h," the head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Oleksandr Filchakov , demonstrated the wreckage.
National Police investigators registered the shelling in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 438 of the Criminal Code (violation of the laws and customs of war). Prosecutors of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office provide procedural supervision in this proceeding.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that Russians launched about 10 missile strikes on Kharkiv. The attack resulted in damage and casualties.
