Ukrainians answered how much longer they are ready to bear the burden of war: "breakdown" was noticed in the survey results
For the first time during the full-scale war, sociologists have recorded a decline in the share of Ukrainians who are ready to endure the burden of war "as long as it takes." However, despite the fatigue and uncertainty, the majority of the population remains committed to a long-lasting confrontation.
This is stated in a study by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS). According to the survey, conducted in September-October 2024, 63% of Ukrainians continue to support the continuation of the struggle for independence.
The results of the survey show that while most respondents are ready to hold out as long as necessary, some people have begun to limit this period. In the new poll, 15% of Ukrainians said they could endure the war for a few more months, and 4% said they could endure it for no longer than six months. The number of those who are ready to endure another year has increased from 3% to 6%.
Previous polls from the beginning of the war until February 2024 recorded a stable picture: about 71-73% of Ukrainians said they were ready to endure "as long as it takes," and 2-3% limited their readiness to one year. The share of those willing to endure only a few months or six months remained at 18-21%.
There is a clear link between the assessment of Russia's power and the willingness of Ukrainians to endure war. Among those who believe that Russia's resources are running out, 77% are ready to endure as long as it takes, and 82% are ready to endure for a long period.
In contrast, among those who believe that Russia's resources are unlimited, only 52% say they are willing to endure as long as it takes, and 59% are willing to endure for a relatively long period. However, even among this group, 28% say they are willing to endure only a few months or six months.
"Despite all the difficulties and objective reasons for an uncertain future, despite the growing fatigue, the majority of Ukrainians are ready to fight as long as it takes," summarized the results of the survey, KIIS Executive Director Anton Hrushetskyi.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, more than 80% of Ukrainians would vote for Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO if these issues were put to a referendum now. In particular, 88% are ready to vote for joining the European Union, and only 8% are against.
The same figures apply to the referendum on NATO membership. 86% are ready to vote for joining the Alliance, and only 10% are against.
At least 91.5% of Ukrainians trust the Armed Forces of our country. 83% of respondents also believe in Ukraine's victory in the war unleashed by Russia.
Another poll showed that more than half of the citizens – 61% – are in favor of having only one Orthodox Church in Ukraine. This idea is opposed by 16%, and for another 20% of respondents, this issue does not matter.
