Traveling through the towns of Ukraine that you will definitely like: what to see
All Ukrainians' travels across their homeland begin in megacities: Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa. But what do you do next when you've traveled to all the known locations and visited them twice or even three times? Of course, to travel further. After all, other regions of our country are no worse than the publicized places.
We offer to take tickets to places you may not have been to yet. And we'll tell you exactly where.
Zhytomyr
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of the city is the Zhytomyr Hosiery Factory and its high-quality socks. But this is not the only thing the region can boast of. In fact, there is a lot to see and do here, even despite its small size.
We recommend starting your exploration with a walk along the main street. This is a small pedestrian alley dotted with many beautiful houses built not long after the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, it is home to cozy cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a cup of delicious and aromatic coffee.
Walking along the cobblestone streets, we advise you to stop near the city council, which is decorated with a tall clock. It's not a simple clock, it plays the melody "And the flax is blooming" every hour. Next, head to the Cathedral Church of St. Sophia, the oldest building in Zhytomyr. It dates back to 1737. Old icons are kept inside, and the walls are decorated with paintings and stucco moldings. You can also listen to organ music here.
Don't miss the Local History Museum, the house of Sergiy Korolev, the Filippov Mansion, the Flat Building, and Gagarin Park.
Khmelnytsky
The city is known for its clothing market, where people from all over Ukraine come to shop. But in addition to the market stalls offering a variety of goods, there are many other places worth visiting. So where to go?
We recommend starting your journey with the oldest street, Stometrivka. All the main events take place here: fairs, holiday exhibitions, street concerts. Admire the old buildings and then visit a cozy restaurant.
By the way, not only the capital has Independence Square. There is a square with the same name in Khmelnytskyi. It is located in front of the regional state administration. Every year, a Christmas tree and illuminations are set up here.
Be sure to visit the pharmacy of Ludwig Derevoed. This building used to be the tallest in the region, as it had three floors at a time when only one-story houses were built. Also, be sure to visit the city's house of culture. It has an unusual design because it was originally built as a theater.
Don't forget to visit the main locations: The Proskuriv Underground Museum, the Scythian Mound, and the monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
Ternopil
Let's move on! Our next stop is the "nice city". This is how it is known among Ukrainians. People rarely go on vacation here because they don't know where to relax and what to see. Now we will correct this misunderstanding. There are indeed many interesting locations here.
We recommend starting your walk from the pedestrian Valova Street, a favorite route of local artists and musicians. It's very nice and beautiful here now - the old facades of the houses were restored in 2012. You walk along the cobblestone streets and for a moment are transported back to the past centuries.
Then head to the Theater Square, the heart of the city. Concerts, exhibitions, and charity events are constantly taking place here. Also go to Shevchenko Park and walk along the Champs Elysees. Yes, it turns out that there is a piece of France hidden in Ternopil. And let's be honest, it's no worse than the real thing.
Don't forget to take a walk along the waterfront, where you can see an ancient castle dating back to 1548. Unfortunately, only the inner palace has survived to this day. But it hasn't lost its beauty. Its stone walls are still impressive.
Ivano-Frankivsk
It is a city of contrasts, old buildings and new buildings. When you come here for the first time, you will think that you are in a modern exhibition hall. There is a lot here that is incomprehensible, but so fascinating and interesting.
From the train station, head straight to the Main Square and the City Hall, built in the style of constructivism. Be sure to climb up to the roof for an incredible view.
Also, take a walk down the smallest and narrowest Ivan Trush Street. It is only 65 meters long and 6 meters wide. The road itself is paved with cobblestones and lined with houses built in the past centuries.
For those who like to read, there is a gallery-bookstore "Pid Lilikom". In the 90s, famous artists gathered there to discuss literary novelties. Now the coffee shop of the same name is out of business, but you can still buy a coveted collection of short stories or a novel here.
Finally, we advise you to look at the door. No, we're not joking now, we're being quite serious. More than 20 ancient gates have been restored in Ivano-Frankivsk recently. So there are plenty of things to see and places to take pictures.
No two cities in Ukraine are alike. So don't be afraid to plan your trip to unpopular regions of our country. We have listed only a small number of locations worth visiting. In fact, there are many more.
