An orchid is not a plant that we grow at home for the sake of beautiful decorative foliage. But sometimes it can give its owner an unpleasant surprise by refusing to bloom for a long time.

It's even more annoying to see an orchid develop buds and have them dry up and fall off without blooming. However, do not rush to throw away such a plant. The Express found two interesting tips on social media from a woman who has learned to make her orchids bloom for 6 months. At least, she promised this effect to the subscribers of the orchid-themed page.

Tip number one: no moss

Moss is often added to the substrate for orchids. It doesn't retain as much water as regular potting soil, but it also prevents it from evaporating instantly. However, according to the woman, this is a mistake. For normal rooting and lush flowering, the plant only needs shredded bark as a substrate. The moisture it absorbs will be more than enough to maintain the orchid's good condition.

Tip two: constant access to a layer of water

The same orchid lover told us that she always leaves 100-150 ml of water at the bottom of her flower pots. Of course, the liquid should not come into direct contact with the roots of the plant, because an orchid can tolerate overwatering even worse than temporary drought. The water level should not rise above the drainage layer. However, the humidity around the orchid should be sufficiently high, and this trick will help to ensure it.

If you see that some of the water in the pot has evaporated, don't forget to add a little. But use the same water as for watering the plant – soft, settled, or filtered water. And always at room temperature. The flower should not freeze.
