From November 6 to 30, the Leonids meteor showers will be visible in the sky. However, the peak of the shower will be on the evening of November 17 and the morning of November 18.

Leonids are meteor showers with fast, bright meteors, the number of which can reach 15 per hour. The trails of glowing dust come from the tail of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, which can hit our planet's atmosphere at speeds of up to 70 km/s, The Guardian reports.

According to astronomers, about every 33 years, the Leonids create exceptional outbursts called meteor storms. At this time, thousands of meteors can be observed per hour. Such storms were recorded in 1833, 1866, 1966 and 1999. The next such bright storm is expected not earlier than 2032.

Scientists emphasize that the best time to observe the Leonids will be after midnight and in the morning of November 18. "Take a deck chair, lie down comfortably, wrapped in a warm blanket, take a cup of hot cocoa and your patience will be rewarded with a bright celestial event," astronomers advise.
