Russian Olympic biathlon champion's action was described as "shame", "what a shame"
Former biathlete Olga Zaitseva has spoken out about the doping case at the Sochi Olympics, comparing herself to a "defender of the homeland." The two-time Olympic champion said she was the first to fight off the "attack" on Russia.
At the 2014 Games, Zaitseva won silver in the biathlon relay. The team lost the award after the athlete was disqualified for violating anti-doping rules.
"The process of fighting for justice has ended, everything is in the past. There is no point in filing new appeals. It is useless. You can see for yourself what the situation is. Now our heroes, the soldiers in the military operations, are defending the country. And we were the first defenders of Russia in terms of sports because the attacks started in this area," R-Sport quoted Zaitseva as saying.
In addition, the 45-year-old Russian added that "Russians cannot be broken."
"Difficulties harden us and, on the contrary, we become stronger and more united," the world champion concluded.
In the comments, Russian fans ridiculed Zaitseva's action, calling it a disgrace.
"It's just a shame. But what else can you expect from a fraudster who has been banned for life by the IOC for doping since December 2017. This is not the first time she has asked the authorities for help, ready to say what they say and kiss wherever they say. It's a shame," users say.
Others ridicule the former athlete for trying to gain a lucrative place in power with her propaganda.
Fans are worried that such statements can only be made on drugs.
