Russia attacks solar power plant in the rear for the first time: Kudrytskyi tells how shelling of Ukraine has changed in 2024
Today, on April 3, the terrorist country Russia targeted a rear solar power plant for the first time. At the same time, the situation in the energy system is currently stable, despite the occupiers' attacks.
This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, during a press conference at the Ukraine-Union Media Center. He clarified that it was not an attack within the combat zone, but rather a strike at the rear of the solar power plant.
"Yesterday the enemy targeted a solar power plant. This is the first case, at least in my memory, of a targeted attack on a renewable energy facility," said Kudrytskyi.
He added that as a result of warming, total electricity consumption is falling, so there is no acute shortage in the power system. At the same time, there is a seasonal increase in electricity production at solar power plants.
Also, he said, compared to the previous series of massive strikes on the power system, Russians have increased the intensity of attacks on energy facilities.
"The intensity of shelling has increased. Last heating season, we saw one massive attack in one or two weeks – and it was either a missile or a "shahed" attack. Now it is a series, almost continuous," emphasized Kudrytskyi.
Thus, a significant number of thermal and hydroelectric power plants have been damaged, which negatively affects the power system in terms of its balance.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on April 4, Ukraine continues to restore electricity supply after Russian attacks and bad weather. Power outages are scheduled in Kharkiv region, and there are restrictions for industry in Kryvyi Rih. In addition, Zaporizhzhia NPP is on the verge of a blackout due to night shelling.
