The Norwegian government has taken another step towards isolating Russia. Starting May 29, the country will not allow Russians whose purpose is tourism.

According to the local newspaper NRK, the police will be able to expel Russian citizens who fall under this rule. However, Russians will be able to cross the border for other purposes.

Foreigners will be allowed to enter Norway if they have a special reason, such as visiting close relatives, work or study.

"The decision to tighten entry rules is in line with Norway's policy of standing together with allies and partners to counter Russia's illegal aggressive war against Ukraine," Emily Enger Mel, Minister of Justice and Public Security, was quoted as saying.

As a reminder, Norway suspended its simplified visa regime with Russia in 2022, after which it practically stopped issuing visas to Russians. Later, the border was closed for cars with Russian license plates.

There is only one checkpoint on the border between Russia and Norway - Sturskug-Borisoglebsk. Norway, although not a member of the EU, is a member of the Schengen area, so Russians can freely enter other Schengen states, most of which are EU members, through its territory.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that last year Finland decided to temporarily close the last checkpoint on the border with Russia. Thus, the country completely "fenced off" from Russia.
