New generation flagship: what is known about the revolutionary Mercedes-Benz S-Class EV
Mercedes-Benz entered the world of electrics early with EQS, but not without nuance. While its luxury competitors mostly stuck to traditional styling for electric vehicles, Mercedes tried to maximize space – the result was a spacious interior enclosed in an "onion body" that was sharply criticized by experts.
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius said that a new Mercedes-Benz S-Class EV is currently being developed. The details were provided by Motor1.
According to preliminary information from Kallenius, the next generation of Mercedes will have two S-Class models, one of which will be electric. In this regard, it will be the S-Class, but specific submodels will outline the differences in powertrains.
The upcoming electric S-Class will have a more traditional sedan style compared to the current EQS. Despite the criticism of the EQ line, Kallenius confirmed that the S-Class with an electric motor and combustion system will have a similar design.
It's important to note that while the EV and ICE sedans will share a similar design, they will use different platforms. The MRA architecture of the current S-Class is rumored to be modified for use in the next-generation model, while the electric S-Class will use the MB.EA Large chassis. Thus, we do not expect the sedans to be identical to the G-Class variants.
Mercedes is likely to abandon most of the capacitive touch controls in favor of true hard buttons.
There is currently no information at all on power, range, or charging capacity. However, there is no reason to believe that it will be less powerful or capable than the current EQS. This means single or dual-engine options, presumably from 360 horsepower to 500 horsepower for the dual-engine models. Rechargeable batteries with a capacity of more than 100.0 kilowatt-hours and a range of 500 to 800 km are also not excluded.
The electric model will enter the market, according to preliminary estimates, by the end of the decade.
