Neighbors revolt against Daniel Craig: "James Bond" set to demolish a historic house
Daniel Craig, the actor who played the lead role in the James Bond films, and his wife, actress Rachel Weisz, got into a quarrel with neighbors over the redevelopment of their Victorian-style home in North London. The celebrity couple plans to demolish the 20th-century conservatory first. However, as the house is historic and located in a conservation area, the owners have conflicts with neighbors and the local council.
The couple also wants to divide the ground floor of the double reception room into two parts, move the kitchen and replace the first floor. However, the locals did not like this move, claiming that it did not fit into the style of the 1840 house. In particular, the ideas for changes were submitted to Camden Council in September this year, according to the British tabloid The Sun.
The celebrity couple plans to enlarge the first floor, which could ruin the entire charm of the mansion. Therefore, the conservation area committee of Camden Council filed a complaint and said that the new extension, which would replace the conservatory, "would not be in keeping with the original form of the house."
The planning agents hired by the couple said the decision to replace the existing late 20th-century conservatory was due to the fact that it was "poorly built" and "inefficient". They also added that the house is cold in winter and too hot in summer, so the house needs to be changed.
The decision to redevelop the mansion is to be made in December this year. If the plans are approved, the work will begin in April 2024.
It is worth noting that Craig and Weisz's house belongs to the second category of historical cultural monuments. This means that their mansion is a special building of interest to the locals.
