Maxar Intelligence has published the first images from its new WorldView Legion satellites
Geospatial information and Earth observation services provider Maxar Intelligence has released the first images from its WorldView Legion satellites. The first pair of these advanced satellites was launched on May 2, 2024 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
These two satellites are part of the six-satellite WorldView Legion constellation. Once in orbit, they will triple Maxar's ability to collect 30-centimeter imagery. These newest satellites will also provide dawn-to-dusk collection and allow Maxar to capture the fastest changing areas on Earth every 20-30 minutes, SpaceNews reports.
"In today's world, our customers need access to faster and more timely geospatial information to accomplish critical missions, from precision mapping to facility monitoring and space awareness," said Maxar Intelligence CEO Dan Smoot on the company's official website.
WorldView Legion is Maxar's newest constellation of high-resolution Earth-imaging satellites. These satellites are capable of collecting imagery for a wide range of applications, from defense and intelligence to urban planning and disaster response.
Maxar Intelligence, formed as part of the reorganization of Maxar Technologies, is a major provider of commercial electro-optical imagery to the US government. In 2022, Maxar signed a $3.2 billion contract with the National Reconnaissance Office to provide imagery and mapping services over the next decade.
