A map of Ukraine without Crimea was found in 7th-grade Ukrainian language textbooks by Anastasiia Onatii and Taras Tkachuk. The discrepancy was noticed in the electronic version of the publication, but it is also present in the printed books.

The author of the textbook explained that image stocks began to post "convenient" maps of Ukraine with two versions of the images – with and without Crimea. In a post on Facebook, the expert also called on teachers to launch a flash mob "Draw Crimea" and devote 10-15 minutes in class to the topic of the peninsula, and its uniqueness, and add an icon to the book.

"It turns out that 'convenient' maps of Ukraine with two 'layers' of images – with and without Crimea – are now posted on the stocks. We 100% recognize this mistake and propose to correct it together with students. We propose to launch a flash mob "Draw Crimea". Fellow educators, please take 10-15 minutes in class to discuss this mistake with your students and draw the icon in the textbook on page 3. Support us – it will be a good reason to talk about Crimea and its Ukrainianness," Onatii wrote.

The designers of the textbook also joined the explanation. According to them, the map in the image consists of two contours. The outline of Crimea was copied and moved down a layer to the white circle. The other outline is located at a level above the white circle.

When creating the graphic, the designer focused on the outlines to avoid any unnecessary ones. Because of this, he did not notice that the object was not on the top layer.

At the same time, the website of the Institute for Modernization of Education Content, where the discrepancy was first discovered, now has Crimea on the corresponding page on the map of Ukraine in the electronic version of the textbook.
