How to park a car correctly: a tennis ball will help

A tennis ball will help you learn how to park

There are many problems with parking, especially in big cities. When drivers see a small space in a parking lot or underground parking garage between pillars and other piled-up vehicles, they have to redouble their efforts to park the car. It is important to do this with great skill, as there is a high risk of damaging not only your car, but also the neighboring ones. One clumsy maneuver and the body is covered in scratches.

However, there is one interesting life hack that will help beginners gain parking skills. Of course, you should practice in your own garage, so that later, having gained experience, you can park in public parking lots without any problems, using the method of visual analogy. Why a tennis ball can be useful for this, Sante Plus has explained.

You will need:

  • 2 medium-sized stainless steel screws
  • lightweight household cord (long enough to reach from the ceiling of your garage to the floor)
  • tennis ball
  • ladder
  • scissors

Step 1. When parking, pay attention to the approximate location of the windshield in relation to the rest of the garage space. Memorize it, create a visual marker. Then drive the car out and get to work.

Step 2. Attach a rope to the ceiling. It should be long enough for the tennis ball to hang at the level of the middle of the car window. Hold the end of the rope in one hand and use the other hand to slide the ball up until it touches the windshield. To make your job easier, you can use a stepladder.

Step 3. Now tie a string around the eye of the ball and cut off the remaining end so that the ball can hang freely.

This will give you a valuable indicator: when parking, move forward slowly until the ball touches the windshield. The ball will serve as a guide and visual marker to know when to stop the car. Over time, you will be able to acquire certain reflexes: you will be better able to assess the depth of the parking lot by touching the ball.
