Candles have become not only an attribute of creating a cozy atmosphere in the house. In conditions of blackout, this is a real necessity. Nowadays there are a lot of decorative containers for candles, which you do not want to throw away immediately after use.

Completely remove all the old candle wax is not easy enough. OBOZ.UA has collected the best tips that will help to remove the remains of candles from the containers.

Method 1

White vinegar can save the situation. The acidity of vinegar will break down the wax residue, leaving the jar spotlessly clean and ready for reuse.

Remove all the wax you can from the jar with a knife or spoon. Don't use anything too sharp or you risk scratching the jar. Once you have scraped out all the wax, pour hot water over it. This will make it easier to clean. However, make sure the water is not too hot as boiling water can damage the glass.

Once you have removed all the wax by scraping and melting, you can use vinegar. Put some vinegar on a cloth or paper towel and wipe the inside of the jar with it. The excess stickiness should disappear and your candle jar will be as good as new.

Method 2

Isopropyl alcohol, popularly known as medical alcohol, is another powerful solvent that can also remove wax. Alternatively, you can use nail polish remover that contains the solvent acetone. Other harsher solvents such as window cleaner, bleach, and even WD-40 will also make wax removal much easier.

After using chemical solvents, wash the candle jar thoroughly with hot water and soap.

Method 3

You can put the jar in the freezer overnight. The deep freeze will make it easier to remove the wax. In the morning, simply turn the jar upside down and the wax should fall out easily. You can use a spoon or knife to remove the residue. You should then clean the jar thoroughly with warm water and soap and wipe it dry with a towel.

Method 4

You need to preheat the oven to 100 degrees, cover the baking tray with foil and turn the used candles over to the foil.

After 10-15 minutes, the wax should begin to flow onto the foil. Next, remove the baking tray from the oven, place it on a heat-resistant surface and carefully clean the jar from the wax residue. Once cooled, treat the jar with soapy water and warm water.

Important caveat: this method is suitable only for glass candle jars without decoration.

Method 5

You can make a water bath. This method works best for removing wax from the bottom and sides of the container.

You need to fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. A small container should be placed over the pot, and a candle jar should be placed in it. The wax will become soft in about 5-10 minutes - then you can take out the jar and remove the residual wax with wooden sticks.
