Cupboards can be the dirtiest places in the kitchen - if not cleaned regularly. Dirt, dust, food scraps, spilled cereal and spilled liquids can not only lead to the accumulation of germs, but also to the appearance of insects and pests.

A mild dishwashing detergent combined with warm water works on most surfaces, including metal, plastic laminate, painted wood, and vinyl. Experts also recommend adding a little vinegar to the solution to kill bacteria.

If you're doing a routine dusting of your kitchen cabinets, always start at the top and work your way down so you don't have to clean anything again.

Some experts advise washing your cabinets every week, but it's better to be realistic. You don't always have the time or opportunity to do a general cleaning that often. If you can't wash your cabinets that often, try a regular dusting once a week.

Wipe the cabinet surface with a dry cloth, paying special attention to the grooves where dust collects.

Most materials do not like excessive liquid. Excessive moisture can damage the finish or paint, and in some cases begin to deform less durable materials. Getting water on hinges or handles can cause them to rust. It is better to apply the product to the fabric rather than directly to the cabinets to avoid oversaturation. Hang wet towels away from wooden cabinets.

To remove grease, you can prepare a soft paste from one part baking soda and two parts water. Leave it on the affected area for a couple of minutes, then wipe it off.

Baking soda is also a miracle product when dealing with kitchen cabinet stains. Gently apply a paste of water and baking soda to the stains with a soft toothbrush or damp sponge.

The glass panes on kitchen cabinets also need to be cleaned. Be sure to use a glass cleaner that is gentle on the cabinet surface. Experts warn against spraying liquids directly on the surface. Instead, dampen a cloth with the cleaner, wipe it, and polish the glass to avoid streaks. And don't forget to open the cabinet doors and clean the inside as well.

We constantly touch cabinet hardware to open and close doors, so regular disinfection is key. You will need a solution of water and baking soda in a 1:1 ratio.

Appliances that emit heat or steam can damage cabinets over time. If you have a toaster or coffee maker right under your cabinets, consider moving them to a different outlet when they are in use.

Clean the inside of the cabinets - remove crumbs and debris and wipe down with a mild detergent. You should also dust all cookware before putting it back.

Use protective films and or other tabs to protect the inside of the cabinets from sticky spills.
