The oven is one of the most important elements of the kitchen for people who love to cook. However, with regular and intensive use, the appliance can not only get dirty but also oxidize.

In addition to looking unsightly, rust can be harmful to your health. That's why House Digest has shared an effective cleaning method that will tackle even the most difficult stains.

When metal parts of the oven come into contact with moisture, a process known as oxidation occurs. This leads to rust, which not only affects the appearance of the appliance but can also damage it over time. Any corrosion causes the oven to take longer to cook food. It can also reduce the strength of the oven racks, which can cause them to break during heavy use.

In addition, rust can affect the taste of food and harm the health of people who ingest it.

Fortunately, there is a method that will help you deal with this problem even without the use of harsh chemicals. Everything you need is probably already in your kitchen.

How to clean the oven from rust

Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is an all-natural rust remover. It's non-toxic, and its alkaline nature works well to remove corrosion effectively.

To begin, mix baking soda with water in a ratio of 2:1" or 3:1, depending on the severity of the dirt, and mix well until a paste is formed.

Then apply the mixture evenly to all the rusted areas and leave it on for at least 15 minutes. If your oven is very rusty, you can leave the baking soda on overnight.

Afterwards, simply wipe off any remaining baking soda with a soft cloth. Before closing the oven, make sure that you have thoroughly wiped off any residual paste and dried the walls of the appliance. The absence of moisture will help prevent rust in the future.
