Herring in mustard and honey sauce, with onions and vinegar: a recipe for a delicious and healthy appetizer
Herring is one of the healthiest and tastiest types of fish. Herring contains an average of 19-20 g of protein, which is a very good ratio. Also, herring, like any fish, contains large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which protect the heart and blood vessels, are good for skin diseases, and should be part of any balanced diet. It can be salted on its own, as well as made into forshmak, salads, and sandwiches.
The cook shared a recipe for delicious pickled herring with mustard, honey, and vinegar on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- herring
- onion – 100 g
- mustard in grains – 50 g
- hot mustard – 30 g
- vegetable oil – 100 ml
- table vinegar 9% – 30 ml
- honey – 1 tbsp
- salt – 1 tsp
- ground turmeric – 0.5 tsp
- dill – 2-3 sprigs
- green onions – 2-3 feathers
Method of preparation:
1. Disassemble the herring and cut into portions.
2. In a deep bowl, combine 2 types of mustard, odorless oil, and 9% table vinegar.
3. Peel the onion, and cut it into thin half rings. Wash the green onion feathers, cut them into rings, and add 2 types of onions to the marinade. Wash fresh dill, dry it, finely chop it along with the sprigs, add it to the other ingredients, add ground turmeric and salt. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly so that the salt grains are completely dissolved.
4. Add the herring pieces to the prepared mustard sauce. Gently mix the ingredients so that the fish is completely covered with the marinade. Cover the dish with an airtight lid or cling film and refrigerate the appetizer for at least 8 hours.
