Farewell, USSR: 5 Soviet Christmas decorations that are long overdue for replacement

Rain on the tree and antique toys look old-fashioned.

How do you plan to decorate your home for the New Year? The times of the USSR are long gone, so we definitely do not recommend using those attributes of the holiday that "warm with childhood memories" or "have long become familiar." A plastic Santa Claus and Snow Maiden, a Christmas tree necklace with beads, or, for example, a porcelain set "Family of Carp" will only disfigure your interior.

What other New Year's decorations are long overdue for disposal? Read the article by OBOZ.UA. Once you get rid of these things, think about how to prepare your home for the holiday with up-to-date decor: minimalist LED garlands, artificial holly branches, etc.

1. Rain and similar "decorations"

Forget about spiral or regular tinsel, Christmas beads, accordion garlands, cotton wool, and other strange decorations for the Christmas tree. They will look out of place, to put it mildly. How to replace them? Miniature bows, a dew garland, or, for example, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and gingerbread cookies.

2. Antique Christmas tree ornaments

In Soviet times, it was not easy to get glass Christmas tree ornaments due to the shortage, so our grandparents still keep them carefully. If you feel sorry to throw away these holiday attributes, leave them in the closet. But still decorate the Christmas tree, taking into account modern trends.

3. Homemade decor from the USSR

Do you like handmade decorations? Try making Christmas tree ornaments from felt, cones, twigs, acorns, LEGO parts, etc. Garlands with flags/candy wrappers or crafts made of rain will look old-fashioned and "cheap."

4. "Elite" sets

Cover the table with an openwork or velvet tablecloth. Then place the dishes in the crystal service on top of it. And you're done! Now your holiday table is as out of step with the trends as possible. Plain linen tablecloths and monochrome or laconic porcelain tableware are in fashion now.

5. Tops for the Christmas tree

The Star of Bethlehem used to occupy the main place on the Christmas tree, which was replaced by a red five-pointed star in the Soviet era. Later, fancy icicles began to be produced instead... Be that as it may, in 2024 we advise you to abandon such decorations. Let a bow, angel, dove, snowflake, flower, or star (the one that symbolizes the Bethlehem one!) adorn the top of your Christmas tree.
