Although Malta is best known as a summer vacation destination, it boasts an incredibly mild winter climate with temperatures that rarely drop below 15 °C.

In 1980, the capital of Malta, Valletta, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city has a long and fascinating history associated with the Knights of St. John.

Valletta can also be visited during a two-day trip, as most of the sights are within walking distance of each other.

Experts say that the best time to visit Malta is from March to June and from September to November.

Old Valletta, designed by military architects, is contained within impenetrable defensive walls and bastions. The combination of narrow medieval streets and a large number of staircases creates ideal routes for walking. At the same time, there are few cars here, so the air is clean and fresh.

You should start your excursions with a visit to St. John's Cathedral to see Caravaggio's Beheading of John the Baptist and the impressive interior of the church. The painting is the only one in existence that bears the artist's signature.

In the Upper Gardens of Baracca, you can admire the panoramic view of the Grand Harbor and hear the daily cannon salute. The Lower Gardens also have a fantastic view of the sea.

The Mysterium Fidei Monastery is also worth a visit - a mysterious place where nuns lived for hundreds of years, now open to the public and offering an immersion in medieval history.

In terms of climate, Malta is very dry compared to neighboring European destinations. Even in November, which is the rainiest month, there are 161 hours of sunshine, which is twice as much as in European cities. In September, the average highs are 28 °C and lows are 20 °C.
