Ukrainians come to honor fallen soldiers

On Sunday, October 1, Ukrainians came to St. Michael's Monastery in Kyiv to honor the memory of the fallen defenders of our country. People laid flowers at the memorial "Wall of Memory of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian War."

This was reported by an OBOZREVATEL correspondent. We remember the feat of every hero of Ukraine.

Thus, on October 1, 2023, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Defenders for the first time. At 9:00 a.m., the country observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the country's independence in battles with the Russian invaders. In particular, traffic on the streets of Kyiv stopped and drivers got out of their cars.

In addition, today Ukrainians came to honor the memory of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers at the memorial "Wall of Memory of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian War" near St. Michael's Monastery in Kyiv. Citizens laid flowers near the photos of the Heroes.

As a reminder, with the transition of the Orthodox Church to the New Julian calendar, the Day of Defenders in Ukraine is now celebrated on October 1, the same day as the Church holiday of the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary's Intercession. This day became especially important for Ukrainians after the full-scale invasion of Russia.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky and the military command of our country congratulated Ukrainian heroes on the Day of Defenders. The Head of State emphasized that our strong soldiers bring Ukraine's victory closer every day.
