Why you shouldn't water your garden in the heat: when is the best time

Watering during the period of solar activity can even harm vegetables.

High-quality watering of the garden is more important than any other care. After all, without fertilisation and even without weed control, something will grow, but without water, it will not. And so, it would seem that in the heat of the day, you can water your vegetables whenever you want - everything will be to your advantage. But in reality, this is not the case.

As OBOZREVATEL found out, watering should be especially well planned in hot weather. And it should be done in the right way and at the right time. Let's talk about the main nuances.

Why you shouldn't water your garden in the heat

Water droplets act like a lens, concentrating the sun's rays. Therefore, if water gets on the leaves of vegetables during the active sun, it can cause sunburn. They look like discoloured spots that can kill the entire leaf over time.

In addition, watering during the heatwave is completely useless, because the high temperature will quickly evaporate all the water from the ground and the plant will not get the right amount of moisture. In the process of evaporation, a zone of high humidity and high temperature is formed around the stem and leaves, which will definitely not benefit the plant.

When is the best time to water the seedbeds on hot days

To ensure that water stays in the soil better and brings the greatest benefit to plants, it is better to water the garden in the evening - at sunset - during the heat of the day. At this time, the temperature begins to drop and the rays disappear. Consequently, moisture penetrates deeper into the soil and stays there longer. In addition, you can safely arrange a "shower" for the leaves - through them, water also enters the plants. It also washes away dust, which stimulates respiration, and some pests, such as ants or aphids. But there is a risk that snails will gather on the drops at night. Therefore, you should take their presence into account when planning watering.

Early morning is also a good time for watering - no later than 10 o'clock. At this time, the heat is not yet so intense and the sun is moderately active, so the water will still have time to penetrate the soil and benefit the plants. In addition, plants absorb water from the ground more actively in the morning. It is better to water vegetables at this time at the root, because the leaves can already be exposed to sunlight.
