Which product causes panic in cats: you will be surprised
Cats are pretty brave creatures: they can fight snakes, go hunting, scare off big dogs, climb trees, and jump from incredible heights. However, they have an unusual fear that few people know about.
It sounds a bit strange, but almost all cats are afraid of cucumbers. The Jerusalem Post investigated why this food causes panic in animals.
Many videos of cats' reactions to cucumbers are circulating online. Users have even created a tag "CucumbersScaringCats". Some cats jump into the air when they see a cucumber nearby, while others knock over bowls of water or food in panic. The calmest animals just cautiously examine the threatening object, moving to a safe distance. In general, there is only one reaction - fear.
Why cats are afraid of cucumbers
Jill Goldman, an animal behavior expert, told National Geographic that cucumbers trigger a natural reflex in cats.
"When frightened, a cat often tries to get away from the danger and then reassesses the situation from a distance," Jill said.
Pam Johnson-Bennett, author of the book "Think Like a Cat," urges not to experiment and not to put cucumbers next to the food. Cats usually associate food and water dishes with safety. Of course, animals get scared when they suddenly see an unknown object nearby.
Goldman explained the panic reaction by the specific shape of the cucumbers. Cats can associate the shape and length of cucumbers with snakes, which are symbols of danger for animals.
By the way, according to recent studies, cats are very afraid of vacuum cleaners. Loud appliances make animals feel distrustful and stressed. When they hear a characteristic sound, cats usually hide in safe places.
The third place in the ranking of feline fears is a mirror. Read the article to find out why cats are afraid of their reflection.
