They are constantly missed: the dirtiest places in the bedroom are named
We don't usually associate the bedroom with the dirtiest room in the house. The bathroom and kitchen hold the palm in terms of contamination. But experts say that even in this room, dangerous dirt can accumulate. It is even more unpleasant because it can affect the quality of sleep. Thus, the presence of dust at night irritates the respiratory tract and can even cause allergy attacks.
Therefore, interior design and cleaning experts have identified the areas and objects in the sleeping area that need to be paid the most attention. OBOZ.UA has collected these recommendations.
Mattress
This item is called the dirtiest in the bedroom. The mattress is an excellent breeding ground for dust mites, bacteria, and allergens. Dead skin cells, sweat, and sebum accumulate over time, creating unsanitary conditions. Fungi and mold can start to grow in them. And regular linen changes won't cut it. The mattress should be vacuumed at least once every 3 months, and it is better to do it monthly, especially if you have pets. The mattress cover is also recommended to be washed once a month, at least every two months. And once or twice a year, the mattress should be deeply cleaned with special products or dry-cleaned.
The area under the bed
Since this is one of the most inaccessible areas of the floor in the entire house, dust accumulates here very strongly. Small objects and pet hair can also roll in here. Sleeping in such conditions can lead to allergies and even asthma attacks in sensitive people. Therefore, no matter how unpleasant this work may seem, once a month you will have to move the bed and clean the dust under it. Better yet, you can do a wet cleaning.
Bedside tables
In addition to dust, these pieces of furniture can also collect food crumbs and drink stains if you have a habit of eating in bed. We also put some wearable items such as watches and glasses here, which can also cause bacteria to accumulate on the surface of the table. The surface of the nightstand and drawers are often used, but not often cleaned, according to cleaning experts. And they advise cleaning this area during weekly cleaning.
Laundry baskets
If you put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket in your bedroom, don't forget to clean it out on time. Bacteria and fungi, as well as moisture, get into the laundry basket along with T-shirts, socks, and jeans. Over time, this can lead to the development of mold. Therefore, it is better to give preference to wicker containers rather than solid ones - they are highly breathable, which allows things to dry well.
Pillows
Just like mattresses, pillows accumulate dust mites, allergens, and sweat, which can lead to unpleasant odors and affect the quality of your sleep. Therefore, in addition to washing pillowcases, do not forget to wash or dry-clean the pillows themselves every 3-6 months and replace them with new ones every 2-3 years.
Door handles and switches
The rule is simple: everything that comes into contact with your hands should be cleaned regularly. After all, a lot of germs get on such surfaces from hands. You can simply wipe the knobs and switches with soapy water during your weekly cleaning, or even better, treat them with disinfectant sprays after mechanical cleaning or wipe them with alcohol wipes.
