The Security Service of Ukraine revealed the identity of another invader involved in the massive shelling of Kherson and the killing of civilians. Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Zharkikh, commander of the 8th Separate Artillery Regiment of the 22nd Army Corps of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Coastal Forces, was identified as the commander of the military formation that gave the order to shell residential areas of the Ukrainian city.
This is stated in the message of the press service of the SSU. It is noted that Zharkikh was informed in absentia on suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war (part 2 of Article 28, part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
On December 24, 2022, the Russian occupant ordered the shelling of the central part of Kherson from "Grads," which were based on the left bank of the Dnieper River.
The Russian terrorists then hit residential houses, stores, a hospital, and a humanitarian aid distribution point in central Kherson. The occupiers killed 11 civilians and wounded 64 more. Most of the victims were women and elderly people.
After such a "victory," Zharkikh was invited to the Kremlin and noted for terrorizing the civilian population of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the war criminal back in 2014 actively participated in the seizure of Crimea. Subsequently, his regiment began to be deployed on the temporarily occupied territory of the Ukrainian peninsula.
After the start of a full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, Zharkikh's subordinate units were involved in the southern front.
Currently, comprehensive measures to bring the invader to justice for crimes against Ukraine are ongoing.
