The house will be clean, and you won't get tired: how the 20/10 cleaning method works
Regular cleaning is the key to a clean and tidy home. It's not just about the aesthetic aspect; some surfaces can become real breeding grounds for bacteria and mold if not cleaned in time.
Everyone establishes a convenient cleaning routine and schedule for themselves. NBC News experts suggest trying the 20/10 method. It's not suitable for emergencies when you need to clean your house quickly, but it can be helpful if you have a long weekend to devote to cleaning.
The 20/10 Rule
Cleaning expert and author of the book "You're Better Than Your Mess," Rachel Hoffman, advises against getting too carried away with marathon cleaning.
The 20/10 rule involves taking short breaks between tasks: 20 minutes of cleaning, followed by a 10-minute break.
"Set a timer and start cleaning. When the timer beeps, you should just stop and switch to another task. You can read news on social media, drink a cup of tea, take the dog for a walk, or apply a face mask. Then, after you have rested, you go back to cleaning," suggests Rachel.
The name 20/10 is arbitrary, and you can set any convenient intervals: 30/15, 15/5, etc.
"Before you know it, your house will be clean, and you won't feel exhausted or tired. In addition, you will have time to do many extra things or even take care of yourself, having time for beauty treatments," adds Rachel.
The main point of the method is to focus on the little things. Start by making the bed, preparing breakfast, washing the dishes, dusting, and so on.
Systematic and regular cleaning is the basis of quality cleaning. Experts advise not moving to another room without cleaning the first one and starting and finishing cleaning in the same place in the room (the circle principle).
By the way, there is a difference between neatness and cleanliness. You can wash the dishes, dust, and shine the surfaces, but haphazardly scattered items, cups on the table, and toys on the floor can make the room look untidy. OBOZREVATEL told you how to make sure your home is always clean.
