Kyiv resident Iryna Selezniova, who became famous throughout Ukraine after her fiery speech against the UOC-MP outside the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, said that she began speaking Ukrainian after her boyfriend shamed her. He asked Iryna, who grew up in a Russian-speaking family, what kind of Ukrainian she was if she spoke Russian.

"And I was like, 'Stop. Really. What's that like?" and decided that I was not going to do that anymore. I switched completely with everyone, but my boyfriend didn't accept it, it was very difficult for him. That's how the division came about: I spoke Russian with him and Ukrainian with my friends, but that was it. Now we forget it and only speak Ukrainian," Selezniova said in an interview with the Football24 YouTube channel.

Iryna's boyfriend, Shakhtar Donetsk footballer Dmytro Topalov, is also trying to master his native language.

"Shakhtar are currently based in Lviv and Dima is trying to switch to Ukrainian because it is very difficult for him. Indeed, the language is very difficult. Now, when I come to Lviv, he can't afford to speak Russian there. So we are getting used to it. I have completely switched to the language with him, and he is catching up," the girl concluded.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, during a stream from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, journalists interviewed random girls, one of whom was Iryna.

Her fiery remarks delighted Ukrainians and garnered hundreds of thousands of views on the Internet in a few days.
