It's a natural pattern: a psychotherapist explained why more and more couples divorce during wartime
In the second year of the full-scale invasion, more and more couples are ending their marriages

Psychiatrist and psychotherapist Oleh Chaban explained why more and more Ukrainian couples are ending their marriages in the second year of Russia's full-scale invasion. In his opinion, this is a completely normal phenomenon.

In an interview on the YouTube channel of medical expert Kateryna Bulavinova, the psychotherapist noted that he would not interpret divorce as either something bad or something good, for him it is simply a natural fact. In particular, he recalled the massive "boom" in marriages at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

"Let me recall the statistics at the beginning of a large-scale war. There were a lot of them. Kyiv was flooded with marriage applications. It reminded me of this strange biological thing: when there is a great threat, you want to continue yourself in your children: it's such a normal thing," Oleh said, explaining the phenomenon of a large number of marriages 2 years ago.

He also noted that after a while, Ukrainians calmed down and began to think about "who I got close to, especially if I don't see this person every day." This led to massive divorces.

The psychotherapist explained that divorces occur because of the increasing distance between people, "The more people are at a distance from each other (he is here, she is in Poland, she is in Kyiv, and he is on the front line) and he has his own family [his brothers-in-arms] there, everything is honest, transparent, clear. So this is a big test of people's strength. It is absolutely natural."

Recommendations

Chaban noted that it is logical that in the case of "protracted situations like this, the number of divorces will increase." But it's not all bad. According to the scientist, after the end of the war, the number of marriages will start growing again and, based on statistics, more boys will be born.
