Hyundai recalls popular affordable model due to technical issue
Hyundai is recalling about 38,000 copies of its popular affordable Elantra model due to the risk of serious problems. The recall campaign is preventive as the company fears the reproduction of the error, so they decided to work with potentially defective cars in advance.
As Autogeek has learned, the recall campaign affects Hyundai Elantra cars, which were released between 2021 and 2023. It is about the hybrid modification of the model.
The company fears problems due to incorrect operation of the software. Because of this, uncontrolled acceleration of the vehicle may occur.
Specifically, the recall affects 37,997 hybrid sedans. Reports of a similar error were first reported in August 2022. Then the number increased to 24, which, however, could not be confirmed at first.
Hyundai failed to reproduce the potential problem in laboratory conditions during lengthy detailed tests. However, they announced the recall campaign just in case and continued to study specific cars. Then they managed to find out the cause.
Most often there was an arbitrary acceleration if you released the brake pedal. Then the hybrid switches to electric traction and starts driving faster. The problem will be solved by updating the software.
