How to clean the apartment with vinegar: six non-obvious options
Distilled white vinegar is a favorite of those who want to take care of their homes inexpensively, environmentally friendly, and at the same time effectively. It is added to laundry to soften clothes, disinfectants are made on its basis, and together with baking soda, it forms a universal remedy.
Meanwhile, vinegar can be used for less obvious household tasks. Good Housekeeping has compiled six ways to use white vinegar in your household.
Cleaning windows
Ammonia, which is used in window cleaners, is a rather toxic substance. At the same time, vinegar is just as effective. Fill a spray bottle with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water, spray it on the windows and wipe them with a lint-free cloth, and then polish them to a shine.
Limescale in the bathroom
The acetic acid contained in this product is an excellent solvent for limescale deposits. A mixture of vinegar and water can be used on tiles and plumbing fixtures to prevent lime buildup. You need to spray it and then rinse it off. If you want to get rid of old deposits on the faucet, wrap the faucet with a cloth dipped in a vinegar solution and leave it overnight. In the morning, the residue can be easily removed with an old toothbrush. To clean the shower head, pour the vinegar solution into a plastic bag and secure it to the head with a rubber band so that the holes are immersed in the liquid. After an hour, remove the bag and run hot water through the shower to rinse the nozzle.
Descaling the kettle
To descale a kettle - whether it's an electric or a conventional one - fill it with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water and leave it to work overnight. In the morning, empty the container and rinse it thoroughly. To avoid a vinegar taste in the future, boil a full kettle of water after cleaning and then drain it.
Cleaning glassware
Your glasses can become cloudy from constant contact with hands and hard water. You can restore their shine by soaking them in distilled white vinegar for 5 minutes. After that, rinse the dishes and dry them with a towel.
Deep cleaning the dishwasher
Dishwashers also need to be rinsed from time to time to remove limescale deposits, and vinegar can help here as well. Place a large glass measuring jug filled with two cups of distilled white vinegar on the top shelf of the appliance and then run the machine on an empty cycle without detergent.
Washing fruits and vegetables
If you are concerned about the hygienic cleanliness of your fruits and vegetables and want to clean them of pesticide residue before eating, prepare a mixture of three parts water and one part white vinegar. This product can be safely sprayed on fruits, after which they should be rinsed with water.
