Blackcurrants will be the size of cherries: what to fertilize the bushes with

How to grow large and tasty blackcurrants

Currant is a sweet and healthy berry, the taste of which reminds many people of childhood. It contains a lot of vitamins and useful microelements that help with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and the cardiovascular system, boost immunity, purify blood, and dilate blood vessels.

In general, currants are an undemanding crop; they take root well on every site. However, it is not always possible to harvest a generous crop of large berries. OBOZREVATEL figured out the best way to fertilize currant bushes.

Even if you choose a good variety that promises large and tasty berries, you might end up with a small harvest that also tastes sour.

The issue lies in the fact that, despite their undemanding nature, currants greatly benefit from fertilization. You can prepare an effective fertilizer.

The necessary ingredients:

  • Water
  • Dry yeast
  • Sugar

For your convenience, we are publishing step-by-step instructions.

Step 1: Pour 1 liter of water into a container, add 100 g of fresh or 30 g of dry yeast.

Step 2: Add ½ cup of sugar to the solution. This significantly increases the fermentation rate. Ensure all ingredients are completely dissolved.

Step 3: After the yeast and sugar are fully dissolved, add another 4 liters of warm water and mix again.

Step 4: Put the solution in a dark place and leave it for 3-4 days at room temperature. Stir occasionally.

Step 5: After 3-4 days, dilute 1 liter of infusion with 9 liters of water. Now the fertilizer is finally ready.

You do not need to water the bushes excessively—excessive moisture is usually the reason why the berries turn sour. For one bush of adult currants, you need to pour 3 to 5 liters of fertilizer. Watering should be done in warm, dry weather.

Experienced gardeners suggest that instead of yeast, you can also take rye bread crumbs and fill a 10-liter container with them by a third. Water the bushes as soon as fermentation begins.
