Black page: a year ago the legendary breakthrough at Azovstal was made
Exactly one year ago, on April 15, 2022, Ukrainian defenders in Mariupol made a breakthrough to Azovstal, where they then held the defenses to the last man. The forces of Azov and allied units of the Marines, who remained cut off on the right bank of Mariupol, broke through to the territory of the steel plant.
This was reported in the official Telegram channel of the Azov brigade. And the former commander of the Azov regiment, Maxim Zhorin, showed footage of the breakthrough to Azovstal by boat (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).
In addition to this route, our soldiers also reached the plant by swimming and across the bridge under continuous enemy fire. The soldiers then took their wounded brothers with them. Unfortunately, many of our defenders died that day.
"April 15 is a black page in the history of Azov. At that time the regiment lost many glorious soldiers. Real warriors. Fearless and devoted to Ukraine. Nevertheless, this black page is illuminated by a feat. A feat of selflessness, courage and loyalty. No one will ever erase it from history", - the message says.
Some of the Azov fighters who took part in the breakthrough have been in Russian captivity for almost a year after leaving Azovstal.
"Some of the Azov men who accomplished this feat are now in captivity. It's been almost a year now. Not only on dates like this, every day we must remind them of them and fight - just as they fought," Zhorin added.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Azov Ukrainian soldier Lev Pashko (call sign "Horus"), who was wounded at Azovstal, called the breakthrough to the steel plant the hardest battle for Mariupol.
