How much time is needed to eliminate beer, wine, and spirits from the blood

The axiom that remains unchanged for every driver sounds very simple: if you have drunk, don't drive. However, drivers often disregard this rule, thereby not only breaking the law but also creating a danger to all road users.

Unfortunately, the statistics of accidents involving drunk drivers are not decreasing. It often happens that the next morning after a loud party or gathering with friends, drivers boldly get behind the wheel, not thinking that there may still be a considerable dose of alcohol in their blood. The Ampercar publication told us when you can drive a car after drinking beer, wine, and vodka.

Features of a hangover

In the morning, without feeling a hangover, drivers think that everything is fine, the alcohol has worn off, and they can go to work in their car. Experts warn that regardless of how you feel, there may still be a fairly high dose of alcohol in your bloodstream. Three factors are worth considering:

  1. the amount of beer, wine, vodka, etc;
  2. how much time has passed since you consumed it;
  3. how the body tolerates alcohol (individual characteristics).

The last point includes physiological parameters:

  • driver's weight
  • gender
  • liver condition
  • metabolic rate
  • digestive system functioning
  • the amount of food consumed, etc.

According to doctors, even if you've had a few beers, you shouldn't drive.

Will sleep help you sober up quickly

There is a very popular myth: it is said that sleep helps to sober up quickly. Experts say this is not true. Sleep does not affect the dose of alcohol in the blood.

The same goes for coffee. It is believed that strong tea, coffee, and a contrast shower will help you sober up. In fact, all these methods will simply cheer the driver up but will not remove alcohol from the body.

How long does it take to remove alcohol

If you drank beer

Doctors say that simple math works here. For example, if a driver has drunk 0.5 liters of beer, its blood alcohol content will approach zero in 2-2.5 hours. Then it goes upwards: 1 liter will be eliminated in 4-4.5 hours, 1.5 liters in 7 hours, etc.

How long does it take to remove wine

It takes up to 10.5 hours to cleanse the blood of alcohol contained in a bottle of wine. After consuming 500 ml, the blood will be cleansed in 7.5 hours. If you decide to drink 100 ml of wine, the alcohol will be eliminated from the blood in 1.5 hours.

Data on vodka

Vodka is the strongest drink, so it's only logical that it will take much longer to eliminate it. Doctors say that 0.5 liters of vodka will remain in the body for another 24 hours. That is, 100 g of vodka will be in the bloodstream for about 4 hours after drinking.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that from January to May 2023, Kyiv region issued fines for drunken driving for more than UAH 15 million.
