While some people are thinking about what to do with their bodies, which became naughty and started gaining weight after the age of 30, others do not take into account their much more mature age and resort to fitness transformations. For example, Australian Joan McDonald, who joined a gym when she turned 70. Now she demonstrates her success on her Instagram blog, where she has 1.6 million followers.

In a recent post, the 76-year-old woman revealed the main secrets of her fitness. MacDonald decided to make a change in her life after she reached a weight of 90 kg at 5'9" and began to suffer from severe pain due to arthritis that affected her joints. Her daughter suggested that she try to alleviate her suffering. This is how Joan began her fitness transformation.

And now she's given 8 tips "on how to turn time into your friend, not your enemy." Here are her secrets.

  1. Protein should be consumed with every meal. And it doesn't have to be meat. The main thing is quality products.
  2. It is better to forget about snacks. Instead of shoving food into yourself even when you don't feel hungry, as required by the schedule, MacDonald advises eating a balanced diet and making sure that your body receives all the necessary nutrients.
  3. It is important to move every day. For herself, she set a goal of 8,000 steps per day in addition to her workouts. "It's not stressful for the body and at the same time it's good for stress, as well as for the heart, lungs, and overall well-being," she writes.
  4. Weight training is no less important. You don't even need to join a gym, the fitness blogger advises. You can choose your exercises from free examples available on the Internet, and either buy dumbbells and other equipment at a sporting goods store or make them from improvised means.
  5. You need to manage your stress level. You should surround yourself with nice people, read good books, listen to interesting podcasts, meditate, keep a diary - do anything that helps reduce anxiety and tension.
  6. Sleep restores and heals the body, so you need to get enough sleep.
  7. You also need to drink plenty of water.
  8. Kindness to yourself and others is an equally important key to success. "An accidental smile can lift someone's mood and inadvertently lift yours," MacDonald says.
