What can replace meat in cabbage rolls: can be eaten in fasting

Traditional cabbage rolls are a hearty dish of vegetables and meat. For juiciness, sour cream is also added. But if you are fasting, some of the ingredients in these dishes need to be replaced.

The idea of cooking lean cabbage rolls with mushrooms was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Olena with the nickname olena_mykolaivna56. To make it more satisfying, add rice.

Ingredients:

  • mushrooms – 300 g
  • rice – 300 g
  • onions – 2 pcs.
  • carrots – 120 g
  • ketchup – 300 g
  • water to cook rice – 500 ml

Method of preparation:

1. Rinse the rice once.

2. When the water boils, add the rice.

3. Add salt and cook for 7 minutes.

4. Turn it off and wait for it to cool.

5. Sauté the onions and carrots in vegetable oil or ghee.

6. Peel the mushrooms and cut them into small pieces, add to the frying pan to the onions and carrots, and fry over low heat for 5-6 minutes.

7. Add your favorite spices and grated garlic at the end. Turn off the heat.

8. Divide the cabbage into leaves, and cut off the thick parts to make it easier to roll the cabbage rolls.

9. Pour boiling water over the cabbage.

10. Boil rice, fry onions, carrots, and mushrooms in a pan, mix everything, salt to taste, and put on a leaf, roll cabbage rolls, this shape, put in a saucepan.

11. Pour a spoonful of oil into a frying pan and add ketchup and a dessert spoonful of sugar. After it comes to a boil, add 200 milliliters of boiling water.

12. Season the cabbage rolls with salt, and add bay leaves and the filling.

13. Put on the fire.

14. Boil, reduce heat, and bring to a simmer over low heat until tender.
