Vinegar is often used to marinate mackerel. But you can do without it. Just use a few spices and make a marinade based on them.
The idea of cooking spicy pickled mackerel without vinegar was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Yulia Mykulych (yuliia_mikulich). The fish will be ready in 2-3 days.
Recipe for delicious pickled mackerel

Ingredients:
- mackerel - 2 pieces of 600 g
- salt - 75-80 g
- sugar - 30 g
- bay leaves - 3-4 pcs.
- cloves - 4 pcs.
- coriander (grains) - 2 tsp.
- dry mustard (grains) - 2 tsp.
- black peppercorns - 10 pcs.
- black peppercorns (allspice) - 5 pcs.
- water - 1 liter

1. Clean the mackerel.
2. Cut off the head, tail, fins. Cut the belly and clean the walls a little.

3. Carefully clean the inner dark film to prevent the fish from becoming bitter.
4. Wash the cleaned fish well.
5. For the marinade, add salt, sugar, bay leaves and all the spices to the water.

6. Put the marinade on the stove.
7. Bring to a boil and cook for 3-5 minutes.
8. Cool the marinade completely.

9. Put the mackerel in a convenient container.
10. Pour the cooled marinade and refrigerate for 2-3 days.
11. Remove the mackerel, wipe it from the marinade.
