With roses and against the backdrop of mountains: how the wedding of the Norwegian princess, who abdicated the throne because of her beloved "shaman", took place. Photo

How the wedding of Norwegian Princess Martha Louise went

Princess Martha Louise of Norway, who abdicated the throne in 2022 and renounced her royal duties for love, married a self-proclaimed African-American shaman, Durek Verrett, at a three-day wedding. This was the second marriage for the 52-year-old eldest daughter of King Harald V (she lived with her ex-husband Ari Ben from 2002 to 2017).

The celebration took place at the Union Hotel in the village of Geiranger, Western Norway (Westland). This place is located between the mountains, so almost all the photos from the wedding were with an incredible landscape. According to Hello!, the couple invited 350 guests.

The bride wore a long ivory sleeveless dress by fashion designer Tina Steffenakk Hermansen. The dress had a long satin train. The princess wore a tiara on her head, which her grandfather King Olav V gave her on her 18th birthday.

The groom, Durek Varrett, wore a black classic tuxedo decorated with a wide fabric gold belt. The same attribute was worn around his neck instead of a tie. The couple's monogram was embroidered on his jacket with gold threads.

The wedding ceremony was dotted with pink roses. Warrett wore fresh flowers instead of a boutonniere. The bride's voluminous bouquet also consisted of roses, and the altar was arranged with these flowers.

"Our love has won, despite all the difficulties, and will last forever," Martha Louise said at the ceremony.

Durek added: "Love transcends everything because love is the primal energy that we all are on this planet. It conquers everything."

How the first two days of celebrations went

The pre-wedding celebrations began on Thursday, August 29. Guests and the newlyweds gathered at a party in the garden of Hotel 1904 in the heart of Aalesund.

On Friday, August 30, the couple enjoyed a boat trip on the Geiranger Fjord to the village of Geiranger. They passed the famous Seven Sisters, Groom, and Bride's Veil waterfalls.

On this day, the Union Hotel also hosted a pre-wedding salsa party, where Durek spoke about his love of music and dance.

Martha Louise's father, 87-year-old King Harald V, who has been in poor health for the past few years, attended the celebration. He was joined by Queen Sonja and other members of the Norwegian royal house. Martha Louise's three daughters, 21-year-old Maud Angelique Ben, 19-year-old Lea Isadora Ben, and 16-year-old Emma Tallulah Ben, also came to the love festival. They were dressed in delicate beige satin dresses and were caught by the paparazzi.

Among the 350 guests were representatives of the Swedish royal family: Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel, his brother Prince Carl Philip and his wife Sofia. Members of other European monarchies did not appear at the celebration.

The photo also shows a lot of video cameras. The fact is that the princess decided to film her wedding, and sold the rights to the streaming platform Netflix.

The lovers got engaged in June 2022. It is known that after the marriage, 49-year-old Verrett will not receive the royal title and responsibilities, but Martha Louise will not be able to lose her title of princess, even though she abdicated.

In particular, journalists of the local VL.NO publication found out that the lovers plan to live together in the United States of America, but the princess assured that she would often visit her parents at home, and in the future, she may return to her homeland.

The couple found a lot in common, at least in their worldview. Both Martha Louise and Durek Verrett prefer alternative medicine and are interested in isotericism. This lifestyle led to criticism from society.

Durek conducts private sessions and claims to be able to help people heal from illnesses and deal with stress. According to the shaman's website, his clients have included actresses Nina Dobrev and Gwyneth Paltrow, Bulletproof Executive blog creator Dave Asprey, and other stars.

According to the Mirror, the princess claims to be able to talk to angels, and Verrett to talk to spirits. He also allegedly has a medallion that helps to reverse spells and cures diseases.

The princess has previously claimed that she is haunted by the ghost of Nazi General Waffen-SS, who shot himself in her bedroom. During the German occupation of Norway during World War II, Vilhem Rediss lived in the royal family's Skaugum Castle before committing suicide - he shot himself on May 8, 1945, after the collapse of the Third Reich.

"When I moved into this room, I started to be terribly afraid of the dark. And there was a man looking at me. I told everyone about it. Every night my nannies or parents would look behind the curtains, pull them back and say: "Look, there is no one behind the curtains. There is no one here," the princess recalled.
